How it began

A school born from a bold mission

The foundation of Immaculate School is a testament to the pioneering spirit of its founder, Rev. Fr. Louis Savinien Dupuis, MEP. The seed of this institution was sown in 1862 in a small hut, driven by a powerful mission: to redeem girls from the clutches of superstitious practices and ignorance prevalent in society at the time.

Fr. Dupuis, whose footprints first touched Indian soil on 9 February 1832, dedicated the school to providing quality education to poor girls — a commitment the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary carry forward today.

  1. 1862

    The beginning

    The school begins in a humble hut, offering girls of Reddiyarpalayam the gift of education.

  2. 1936 – 1937

    Diamond Jubilee

    Significant advancements culminate in the Diamond Jubilee celebration, magnificently orchestrated by Mother Susaimary.

  3. 1958 – 1963

    Expansion of classes

    • 1958: Mother Alphonsia Mary starts nursery classes.
    • 1961: Centenary celebrated with great fervour by Mother Kalisda Mary.
    • 1963: School upgraded to a middle school.
  4. 1978

    English medium introduced

    English-medium instruction begins in the nursery classes under Headmistress Sr. Elizabeth.

  5. 1984 – 1988

    Government recognition

    • 1984: Government permission for Classes 1–5.
    • 1988: Government sanctions 13 teaching posts.
  6. 1993 & 2002

    New buildings & land

    Six new classrooms built on 08.12.1993. Provincial Sr. John Britto Mary purchases an additional plot of land on 18.09.2002.

  7. 1999 – 2000

    High School status

    Upgraded to a High School — and a continuous 100% pass rate in public examinations ever since.

  8. 2012

    150 years

    A grand sesquicentennial led by Sr. Pascal Paulin Mary, with a commemorative souvenir.
